How did you notice that Julia needed to be rebuilt too? Just by testing it manually? I had totally forgotten about that.
Apparently Julia can be fixed so that changes in the revision number don't require a rebuild.
Yeah I just started it, fortunately. Previously I ran some tools on the versions of suitesparse and according to that it should give no problems (i.e. only API additions, no functional changes or other incompatibilities). I was quite surprised to see julia crashing instead of giving me a prompt :).
Fortunately Florian Weimer dug into this and found the cause (I see you've found the github issue he submitted already: https://github.com/JuliaLang/julia/issues/12841)
