All ok after updating docker to the latest version to fix memcache deploy hang.

Hmm, tried deploying (--deferred) the memcache role but it wouldn't set up the docker container because the volume group in my VM didn't have free space (but that seems more of a docker issue to me). Deploying, etc. a database role worked for me.

The domaincontroller role is present.
rolectl list doesn't throw an exception.
