When I attempt to start eclipse after installing this update, it fails with the error: "The Eclipse executable launcher was unable to locate its companion shared library."

Sorry, the above failure was due to user error. I had made manual modifications to my eclipse.ini and accidentally clobbered the eclipse.ini shipped by the package. (I had manually changed to the GTK2 renderer to work around the distortion error). With the correct INI file in place, this patch is a marked improvement on the previous GTK3 support. It's still not perfect; there is some lesser distortion now during scrolling, but it disappears as soon as scrolling concludes.
