bluez 5.38 has regression with some BT speakers (crash on connect), please go with recently released 5.39 instead which should have all those fixed.
Since update to 5.38, a2dp headset connects momentarily but disconnects within a few seconds. Tailing /var/log/messages shows that bluetoothd is crashing. Reverting to 5.36 resolved the issue.
