No dice, still crashing at startup. Sometimes the controller process recovers, sometimes it crashes too. I have reported the problem upstream at https://sourceforge.net/p/gtk-gnutella/bugs/541/

The culprit for me is that a low-level function is trying to determine the host name and IP address, which can take a relatively long time. This triggers a timeout and a resultant abort.

This update has reached 7 days in testing and can be pushed to stable now if the maintainer wishes

The fix for my crash is in the next version of gtk-gnutella.
