I have tested on a virtual machine with 4GB RAM and I have experienced several crashes that were logged as "OUT OF MEMORY" problems. Otherwise, the functionality of the application was quite good, although I did not have some of the dependencies installed (hugin, etc.).
Does it really depend that much on the memory, or is there another problem?

OUT OF MEMORY
High memory use doesn't surprise me, but that might be a bit much. There's 18.01.1 release on it's way, see if that's better.
