Functionally, the 4.16/f28 combination works fine on my late 2017 Razer Blade Stealth laptop, but visually it's nearly unusable.

Unfortunately, with 4.16, the i915 devs (or dev) removed something (perhaps related to rc6) and screen flicker is at an all time high.

I'm going to attempt to back-rev to a 4.15 kernel on Fedora 28 and file a bug at freedesktop (when I get a chance).

@bjr69 thanks for the feedback. Regarding the flickering, it sounds like https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1573482. I see there's a freedesktop bug linked in a comment. The symptom described isn't exactly the same, but it's probably a good place to start. If you do end up filing a new bug, linking it back to #1573482 would be very helpful. Thanks again!

@jcline thanks! So, following the freedesktop and bugzilla threads you linked to led me to at least a temporal reprieve from the near seizure inducing flicker.

For me, setting intel_idle.max_cstate=4 gets me a pretty stable system with no flicker. Kewl!

I know that power has become a HUGE area of importance and I'd expect more power-related bugs than normal over the next few years. Security too.

Cheers!

Is there an issue with promotion of packages? In the last few days some of packages take a while to change repos...

fail; locks during boot on system comprised of asrock z370, bios p1.70, i7-8700k; nvidia 1080ti, nvidia driver ver = NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-396.24; boot drive = 480GB intel optane

Hi @patrick299nash,

I'm afraid we do not support the proprietary nvidia driver. If you can reproduce it with nouveau and file a bug, that would be great.
