/boot/grub2/grubenv indeed points to a nonexistent file, which makes grub2-install fail.

@kkofler @ppisar the update included this commit, intended to fix this bug - could possibly be the root of your problems. Might help to have more context on both, though...

The issue I am having might actually not be caused by this update after all. I have also seen this come up on a F27 remix around the same time (~a week ago), and no grub2 update reached stable there at that time.
