I received the gnome-text-editor-42.1-2.fc36 update today and can confirm that the bug is fixed. Turns out that the crash was a consequence of disabling "recent files" history on GNOME (which I have indeed done). But everything works properly now in the new package. I am happy that my notifications list won't be filled with endless crash reports anymore! :) Thanks everyone who solved this!
