@mattf oddly enough, the kernel has nothing to do with that. I believe the problem lies in grub, though it could be systemd which is where install-kernel is. You aren't the first one to see this recently.
with this kernel i am unable to login to fedora kde. dont know if its kwin crashing or sddm, but its not working. tried x11 and wayland for about 10 times - i always get kicked back to login screen. with 5.8.7 it works instantly.
workstation with a 7950x3d and asus tuf gaming 7900xtx. one screen connected to the igpu, one to the graphic card.

i was able to login now, seems like the amdgpu driver is just so fcked up, that it more or less randomly breaks stuff. so karma from -1 to 0
