FEDORA-2023-e4b2abdb7b created by rhughes 3 months ago for Fedora 39

This release adds the following features:

  • Add a DP AUX device subclass and port the Synaptics MST plugin to it
  • Add a feature flag for non-generic requests where translations are required
  • Hide generic VID/PIDs to avoid accidental firmware matches
  • Optionally set the modem carrier configuration as the branch name
  • Rename 'fwupdmgr sync-bkc' to 'fwupdmgr sync' and also consider the branch
  • Require additional requirements for devices using non-OEM USB VIDs
  • Set the waiting-for-user status when sending a request
  • Support uSWID SBoM data with LZMA compressed payloads

This release fixes the following bugs:

  • Accept any registry versions when parsing Redfish message IDs
  • Do not read the AMDGPU DM DPCD on broken firmware versions
  • Do not save obsoleted HSI attributes into the history database
  • Fix a crash when some DRM devices are hotplugged
  • Fix a possible crash in fu_io_channel_read_raw()
  • Fix parsing LZMA-compressed EFI sections
  • Only use the architecture-specific GUID for UEFI dbx quirk matching
  • Parse all the type 42 SMBIOS tables
  • Prompt the user to reboot after applying internal Wacom firmware
  • Respect no-serial-number flags when using GUID matches
  • Use the etag when patching Redfish resources
  • Use the username and password to get metadata when set

This release adds support for the following hardware:

  • Kinetic SST/MST DisplayPort converters
  • Wacom Cintiq Pros (DTH172, DTH227)

Generally works, however "fwupdmgr get-devices" does not work for me. There is no output and no cursor, so I have to kill it to get back to the shell. The other tests in the Test Case are fine. FYI "fwupdmgr get-devices" worked fine with 1.9.7-1

I checked this version and the previous version with the -v switch and the debug output looks the same too me.

F39 on Lenovo t14s - fwupd.service won't start -> timeout

previous 1.9.7 - works fine

Test Case fwupd

Bodhi is disabling automatic push to stable due to negative karma. The maintainer may push manually if they determine that the issue is not severe.

Same issue as g6avk - fwupdmgr get-devices hangs, and has to be killed.

Out of interest -- are you both using daisy-chained DP monitors?

No display port monitor attached in my case. I can re-test without docking station and other things attached if you want.

re-test without docking station

Lenovo Thunderbolt 4 dock by any chance?

"sudo fwupdmgr get-devices" also hangs for me, and I have neither daisy-chained monitors nor is this desktop tower connected to a dock ;)

Motherboard is an ASUS ROG STRIX X570-E GAMING, if that matters.

Test Case fwupd

Sorry, I should have said Slimbook Titan, with no dock / external monitor.

Can you add your "sudo strace fwupdtool --plugins synaptics_mst -vv get-devices" output to https://github.com/fwupd/fwupd/issues/6379 please

I have a similar sort of setup as @decathorpe, Tower and single monitor, ASUS PRIME B450M-A II

Can everybody please test the build here please: https://copr.fedorainfracloud.org/coprs/rhughes/fwupd/

@rhughes - installed from the copr repository and ran twice - unfortunately the problem persists.

I just updated from your COPR and the problem is still there.

I need one of you to either open a Fedora bug or comment on the upstream issue -- I can't really continue to debug in this bohdi update. I need the output of "sudo strace fwupdtool --plugins synaptics_mst --plugins kinetic_dp --plugins linux_display get-devices -vv" where the copr build is installed.

Added my log to the upstream issue

fwupdmgr get-devices working fine here

Test Case fwupd

This update has been unpushed.

Anyone with problems, can you please test https://copr.fedorainfracloud.org/coprs/rhughes/fwupd/ -- I'm going to release that as 1.9.9 on Monday if there are no reported problems.

The new build works fine now on this box, passes all my tests. Thanks!

1.9.9 works fine. Thank you.
