When i start Firefox 126 i now have 2 processes showing in system monitor: 1) /usr/lib64/firefox/firefox 2) /usr/lib64/firefox/firefox --dbus-service /usr/bin/firefox when i close Firefox 126 the second one will stay open, resulting in Bleachbit complaining about Firefox still running, i then have to manually terminate it. Happens everytime i open Firefox 126. (Fedora 40 Budgie, using AMD CPU & iGPU)
In Firefox 125 i only got one process: 1) /usr/lib64/firefox/firefox
I did log out and back in before testing Firefox 126.
Works for me! I do also see the extra process running. I expect that's upstream's change and not a packaging issue.
Works for me. I don't see the extra process with --dbus-service, either in System Monitor or when running "ps ax | grep firefox", with either 125 or 126. With the latter command there are MANY processes starting with "/usr/lib64/firefox/firefox -contentproc", with either version, but presumably that's normal. With System Monitor I only see one process with either version.
Sorry, forgot to logout and back in first. After doing that, I DO see the extra process, both in System Monitor and with "ps ax | grep firefox". Other than that, everything else is fine.
Working for me.
working fine
/usr/lib64/firefox/firefox --dbus-service /usr/bin/firefox is Firefox DBus service used as broker for Gnome search provider. It implements and provides org.freedesktop.Application DBus interface (https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1894912).
I may consider to move it to extra package to avoid installation for desktops without it.
DBus service should be moved to a separate package and installed only if the gnome-shell is installed.
Is there a way to permanently disable this DBus service? Tried to mask it, but then Firefox wont start.
This update has been pushed to testing.
Bodhi is disabling automatic push to stable due to negative karma. The maintainer may push manually if they determine that the issue is not severe.
This update can be pushed to stable now if the maintainer wishes
Works.
The 39 build is now queued for stable, although it presumably has the same dbus issue, so either this one should be manually pushed to stable, or the other should be prevented from going to stable until this is sorted out. There is a devel thread at https://lists.fedoraproject.org/archives/list/devel@lists.fedoraproject.org/thread/FFPQSLSYNQ3MWPNAJNXO3PHRVNGRXVFC/ .
There is also newer build as well on Koji: firefox-126.0-6.fc40
Let's push this one and figure out the DBus stuff later.
This update has been submitted for stable by stransky.
You need to set DBusActivatable=false at /usr/share/applications/org.mozilla.firefox.desktop and then you can remove /usr/share/dbus-1/services/org.mozilla.firefox.service file.
Thank you @stransky, really appreciate that, tried it and the result is what i wanted.
This update has been pushed to stable.
/usr/share/dbus-1/services/org.mozilla.firefox.service file wa smoved to extra package but I'd need to investigate how to install the gnome/non-gnome .desktop file properly.
