Works for me; I did my test this way (on a Fedora 42 server install):

$ rpm -q mdadm
mdadm-4.3-7.fc42.x86_64

$ sudo mdadm --assemble --scan
mdadm: /dev/md0 has been started with 1 drive.

$ cat /proc/mdstat
Personalities : [raid1]
md0 : active raid1 vdb[0]
      17497088 blocks super 1.2 [1/1] [U]

unused devices: <none>

$ mdadm --stop /dev/md0
mdadm: stopped /dev/md0
