This kernel introduces serious "hangs" on one of my systems (ThinkPad T14s Gen4 AMD) https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2359271
Works good here. Ryzen 3700x, Rog Strix B550-F, Nvidia from negativo17.
Not sure if it's kernel related, but I've noticed this after upgrading to F42 and using this kernel more - wake up from suspend needs quite a while to bring up all the devices, e.g. ethernet, WiFi... Also Booting to loging screen takes longer for some reason. Anyone else noticing this? On AMD Ryzen 7840u
Upgraded from F41 to F42. Lenovo P16s Gen2 AMD. Everything seems to work but the suspend/resume seems slower than previously. Closing the lid on F41 it went to sleep in 1 or 2 seconds. Now it's 10 to 15 seconds to get the machine to sleep. Waking up seems as fast as previously though. Laptop is running s2idle as previousy and P-State also. On waking up the laptpo, the Wifi is extremely slow to come back online. It goes through a timeout before coming back (about 30 seconds of wait) and then it takes 15/20 seconds to be connected to the Wifi again (that's 45 seconds, almost a minute to get the wifi back). It does come back, but it's very, very slow to come back. System log shows some timeout on the Qualcomm QCNFA765 Wireless : <error> [1744999339.4270] device (wlp1s0): Couldn't initialize supplicant interface: Timeout was reached. Buttons for sound and display backlight work fine, keyboard light too. Besides the slow "get to sleep" and wifi doing a timeout on wake-up, everything seems to work properly ! Because some actoins are slow BUT working I am going to give a thumbs up. Kernel tests run and uploaded.
@ markec : I am also using a 7840U (+780M) and I have the same result as you. Laptop is very slow to suspend, and coming back online the Wifi requires almost a minute to work again. Booting the laptop seems as fast as previously. From login screen to desktop it's slightly slower but it's about 1-2 seconds more.
Ha, exactly same as my symptoms as well @gilbert-fernandes
I can confirm the hangs (individual processes temporarily do not respond: firefox, kate, wpa_supplicant, dm-crypt devices when they shall be mounted on boot (luckily they never end up in time out -> only about 10 sec), sleep also leads to about 10 sec non-response with frozen screen until it starts). I can only say that they came with F42 and 6.14.X, but given how and when they appear, I presume it is kernel related. In ask.fedora, there are already some topics with elaborations of the issues. I also elaborated mine in more detail there:
https://discussion.fedoraproject.org/t/consistent-screen-freezes-after-upgrading-to-f42/149113 https://discussion.fedoraproject.org/t/fedora-42-live-media-freeze-on-dell-precision-5490/148441 https://discussion.fedoraproject.org/t/system-performance-issues-after-upgrading-to-fedora-42/149002
It is not yet clear if all cases are related to each other, but all have in common that they started after the upgrade to F42 (which implied the upgrade to 6.14)
Supplement to my negative karma above: AMD Ryzen 7 PRO 6850U, Lenovo T16 Gen1, F42 KDE, no external modules, no nvidia
Kernel 6.14.3-300.fc42 (from https://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/buildinfo?buildID=2702630) fixed the issues with my ThinkPad T14s AMD freezes as well as the hanging WiFi card after resume.
Cool, that's good to hear we have a promising next build!
Could build be pushed to testing please https://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/buildinfo?buildID=2702630 or is it waiting for F41/F40 to finish?
@larvitz the same for me but you might post a +1 karma in the related 6.14.3 page to let the maintainer know there :)
Also running ThinkPad P16s Gen 2, suspend taking longer, most noticable when trying to wake. On occasion 60 seconds later the capslock light still won't work, I end up holding the power until it does a complete power off.
Also issues with wireless, initially identified using speedtest with sub 1Mbps throughputs and/or latency spikes. Local testing to wireless gateways showed latency spikes from expected 5-20ms range into 500-1000, occasionally reaching even 3500ms. Trying to disconnect the wireless and reconnect can result in network manager saying it cannot bring up the connection. Trying to use nmcli directly to up the connection can complain that the device can't be brought up, except it mentions the ethernet interface enp1s0f0 instead of the wlp2s0 defined in connection.interface-name of the connection profile.
I was already having yubikey issues w/ pcscd saying
auth.c:143:IsClientAuthorized() Process 4574 (user: 1000) is NOT authorized for action: access_pcsc
(since F41 upgrade). I implemented the hacks/workarounds to disable polkit in/etc/default/pcscd
and a separate udev rule to restart pcscd (for lack of a better option ATM since other bugzilla tickets seem to say its working, but definitely been an issue since upgrade to F41). Often took a few seconds to maybe 20-30 for gpg to show the smart card. With this kernel it seems to take 2-5 minutes beforegpg --card-status
stops reportingNo such device
