would it make sense to introduce a compat-flac-libs 1.4 package to provide the older libraries for locally compiled programs? flac 1.5 bumped the so name.

As I understand it, compat packages are primarily meant to be added when other packages in the distro cannot easily use the new version of the library, e.g. due to a major API change. flac-1.5 didn't break the API, a rebuild should work.
